Belarusian Yak-130 Crashed Killing Two Pilots

A Yak-130 military plane from the Lida assault air base crashed near Baránavichi, the Belarusian Military published a statement in Daily Telegram.

The Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Belarus confirmed Wednesday morning local time that a Russian-made Yak-130 jet trainer has crashed.

Two pilots were killed in the accident of a military training plane in the Belarusian city of Baránavichi, reported the Ministry of Defense of the republic.

Two pilots died when a training aircraft crashed outside the Baranovichi airport, Ministry of Defense officials say.

There were two pilots in the cockpit of the Yak-130 trainer. Immediately after takeoff from the airfield, they discovered a technical malfunction of the aircraft and decided to take it away from the populated area.

The note adds that “unfortunately, both pilots died.”
There are no other deaths or destruction caused by the plane crash, he says.

“the pilots tried to move the plane away from the locality. Making sure that the trajectory of the fall of the plane was outside the residential buildings, the pilots ejected,” said the agency.

The families of the pilots, the ministry assured, will receive all the necessary help.

According to the Defense Ministry’s data, the flight was performed by Wing Commander of the 116th Assault Aviation Base’s Combat Training Squadron Major Andrei Nichiporchik and Squadron Wing Pilot Lieutenant Nikita Kukanenko.

“A commission of the Defense Ministry headed by the deputy defense minister for armament has left for the scene of the incident,” the statement says.

The Belarusian Air Force received the first batch of Yak-130 combat trainers in 2015 under a contract with the Russian aircraft corporation Irkut. Four more combat training planes arrived for the Belarusian Air Force in a year and another four combat trainers were delivered in 2019.
