Three naval personnel died of injuries caused by an explosion on board Indian Navy’s destroyer ship INS Ranvir. “In an unfortunate incident today at Naval Dockyard Mumbai, three naval personnel succumbed to injuries caused by an explosion in an internal compartment onboard INS Ranvir,” a Defense Ministry said.
INS Ranvir was on cross-coast operational deployment from the Eastern Naval Command since November 2021 and was due to return to base port shortly.
According to an ANI input, 11 injured sailors are undergoing treatment at the local naval hospital. The explosion reportedly happened in an internal compartment onboard the warship.
“In an unfortunate incident today at Naval Dockyard Mumbai, three naval personnel succumbed to injuries caused by an explosion in an internal compartment onboard INS Ranvir,” an Indian Navy’s statement said quoted in various media.
The ship’s crew responded immediately and brought the situation under control. No major material damage has been reported, the Navy statement added.
A Board of inquiry has been ordered to investigate into the cause of this incident, the statement said.
INS Ranvir was on cross-coast operational deployment from the Eastern Naval Command from November 2021 and was due to return to base port shortly. INS Ranvir is a Rajput Class Destroyer.
