Ukraine’s military says it has shot down a Russian military’s Su-30 plane using man-portable Stinger missile, reported Sky News citing Ukraine’s interior minister. The aircraft was shot down over Darnytskyi district of Kyiv.
Ukraine had received more than 500 Stinger missiles from Estonia and Latvia.
According to a statement from the military’s General Staff, the Su-30 plane was shot down near Vasylkiv, a city 40 kilometers south of Kyiv. The Russian military has not commented on the incident so far.
In a separate post, the army said “heavy fighting” was underway in the town of Vasylkiv south of Kyiv, adding that Russia was “trying to land paratroopers”.
The military also said it had shot down a Russian helicopter and SU-25 aircraft at around midnight on Saturday, and reported shooting down an II-76 Russian transport plane carrying paratroopers near Vasylkiv, a city 25 miles (40 kilometers) south of Kyiv, an account confirmed by a senior American intelligence official.
