The Armed Forces of Ukraine published archival footage of strikes against Russian positions on Snake Island and revealed details of the actual special operations.
The Russian army seized the island during the first days of the full-scale invasion, which began on February 24. Thus Russia wanted to ensure control of the sea and sky in the northwestern part of the Black Sea.
The operation to de-occupy Snake Island lasted for more than two months. This was disclosed by Operational Command South. It involved the Navy, Air Force, State Border Service, intelligence, Security Service, missile troops, artillery and a squadron of attack drones.
During the first stage of the special operation, the AFU destroyed Raptor patrol boats using a UAV Bayraktar TB2. There were also strikes on the landing boat “Serna”, the tugboat “Rescuer Vasiliy Beh” and the frigate “Admiral Essen”.
The Armed Forces eliminated the command post located on the island. The Russians also lost the reconnaissance equipment, which had been installed on drilling rigs near the island. By continuous fire, air and missile strikes, the Defense Forces managed to dislodge the Russians from the island.
As a result, the Russian army lost four Pantsyr-S1 SAM systems, three Tor-M2, a Mys radar, Tornado-G and Uragan MLRSs, an electronic warfare system, an ammunition depot, two patrol boats and several other vehicles. In monetary terms, the total losses amounted to more than $1.5 billion.
