Ukraine Received First Battery Of Sophisticated NASAMS Anti-air Missiles

After several months of waiting, Ukraine has received the first anti-aircraft missile systems NASAMS.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky told this during an interview with the American edition CBS. The information was also confirmed by the Head of the President’s Office Andriy Yermak. Zelensky did not say how many SAMs were given to us, but most likely we are talking about two batteries. One battery consists of six mobile missile launchers on the caterpillar chassis. By the way, till 2024 the USA plans to send to Ukraine six more NASAMS. Raytheon and Kongsberg are already engaged in their production.

NASAMS is a mobile surface-to-air missile system for destroying maneuvering targets at low and medium altitudes. The system was developed in the early 1990s by the Norwegian company Kongsberg Defense with the participation of the American Raytheon. The SAM entered service with the Norwegian Armed Forces in 1994. AIM-120 AMRAAM ground-launched missiles have a range of 50 km and maximum altitude of 20 km. The cost of one such battery is about $65 million.
