According to a video published on the Social Network Telegram on December 9, 2022, Ukrainian soldiers captured a BRM-1K Model 2021, the Russian reconnaissance tracked armored vehicle in service with the Russian army.
The BRM-1K is a reconnaissance tracked armored vehicle based on the BMP-1 IFV (Infantry Fighting Vehicle) tracked chassis. The vehicle is normally used by a reconnaissance company of a motorized rifle or tank regiment, and three of them are assigned to the reconnaissance battalion of a motorized rifle or tank division.
The first version of the BRM-1K has a layout similar to the BMP-1 IFV but is fitted with a two-man turret which is armed with one 73 mm 2A28 gun, one 7.62 mm PKT coaxial machine gun, and six 81 mm smoke grenade dischargers. The rear part of the turret is fitted with a PSNR-5 (1RL133), NATO designation “Tall Mike”, a battlefield surveillance radar. The radar has a maximum range of 10,000 m and other equipment carried by the vehicle includes a DKRM-1 (1D8) laser range-finder, an ARRS-1 location device, an IMP mine detector, and 1PN33B night binoculars. The vehicle is also equipped with navigation equipment including a TNA-1, an IG11N gyrocompass, and a 1T25 survey device.
The BRM-1K Model 2021 is also equipped with a set of communication equipment including R-168-100KB, R-168-25U2, and R-168 UPS-2 radios. The onboard equipment also includes a fire control system TKN-4GA-01 combined with a day-night sighting system.
The BRM-1K Model 2021 has a crew of five and a combat weight of 14,200 kg. The hull of the vehicle provides protection against the firing of small arms and artillery shell splinters. It is powered by a UTD-20S1 6-cylinder 4-stroke V-shaped airless-injection water-cooled diesel engine developing 300 hp. It can run at a maximum road speed of 65 km/h with a maximum cruising range of 550 km.
