Kongsberg Defense Awarded $2 Billion Contract To Produce Naval Strike Missiles For Poland

Poland’s Ministry of National Defence signed an agreement with Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace during the MSPO-2023 exhibition. The European country is buying Naval Strike Missile anti-ship systems.

The day before, Defence Minister Mariusz Błaszczak announced that Poland signed several agreements worth about $24 billion. Half of them are aimed at strengthening the country’s defence capabilities.

Poland became the first operator of RTX’s new Lower Tier Air and Missile Defence Sensors (LTAMDS) radars and ordered 48 Patriot launchers with PAC-3 MSE interceptors to form three divisions.

Poland is also buying two divisions of Naval Strike Missile anti-ship systems. The agreement with Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace involves the delivery of launchers, hundreds of NSM missiles and command vehicles. The deal is worth almost $2bn, with deliveries scheduled for 2026-2032.

The new contract will allow Poland to double the number of Naval Strike Missile divisions. The NSM anti-ship missile has a 120kg warhead and can hit targets at a range of more than 185km.
