Germany will transfer 120 Marder 1A3 infantry fighting vehicles to Ukraine

Germany has revealed how many Marder 1A3 infantry fighting vehicles it plans to supply to Ukraine.

According to the government website, we are talking about 120 units: 40 taken from the warehouse of the company Rheinmetall and 80 from the warehouse of the German Army. Some of them are already in the hands of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

BMPs are being overhauled before they are shipped when the delivery of all Marder 1A3s will be completed.

Marder 1A3 is a German tracked infantry fighting vehicle. It has been in service with the Bundeswehr since the 1970s. The BMP has many modifications and seats up to 10 men. The Marder 1A3 boasts a sealed hull made of armour plates of several varieties up to 30 mm thick.

These protect the front of the MMP from 20mm and 25mm bullets from 200 metres away, while the sides protect against shrapnel and 7.62mm small arms fire. As for armament, it is a 20mm RH 202 automatic cannon and an MG3 7.62mm machine gun paired with it. Also, the BMP still has one machine gun on the roof of the troop compartment.
