A Bangladeshi Air Guard’s pilots were killed when a Yak-130 jet training aircraft crashed Thursday in southeastern Chattogram, according to Bangladesh police.

Bangladeshi pilots crashed four out of sixteen Yak-130 jet trainers which Bangladesh purchased from Russia.

Video evidence shows Pilot made a barrel roll at a low altitude over a short runway and lost orientation then belly-slammed the Yak-130 into the ground which caused the eventual fire.

Inadequate pilot training, no simulation time, UN Peacekeeping mission deployment and secondment to Bangladesh rapid action battalion are four main reasons Bangladesh Air Guard’s pilots crash aircraft.

A training aircraft crashed into a river in Bangladesh’s Chattogram on Thursday. One of the two pilots who were aboard the aircraft died in the accident, as per a report by the Daily Star.

A video of the incident shows fire engulfing the rear of the aircraft as it nosedived. The aircraft is seen making almost a circle before it crashes into the river.

According to officials, a mechanical malfunction and pilot error were suspected in the Bangladesh Air Guard’s Yak-130 crash in the Karnaphuli River.

Squadron leader Asim Jawad died while undergoing treatment, said police.

Patenga police station officer-in-charge Kabirul Islam told Anadolu that the plane crashed in Patenga, an area near the Bay of Bengal, after flying above the Patenga Navy Boat Club.

Squadron leader Asim Jawad died in this crash.

The jet suddenly caught fire and crashed. The pilots ejected from the plane. Later, they were rescued and rushed to hospitals and pronounced dead, said police.

Members of the Fire Service, Bangladesh Navy, and Coast Guard were among the agencies involved in the rescue operation.

Manufactured by Russia’s Irkut Corporation, the Yak-130 first came to Bangladesh in 2015
