Former Russian Deputy Defense Minister Tatyana Shevtsova, who officially left her post in mid-June, defected to France, reported Tsargrad citing several defence officials.

At the beginning of May, it was speculated that Shevtsova might step down following the appointment of a new Minister of Defense, Andrei Belousov. This was when the ministry was apprehending high-ranking generals, such as Timur Ivanov and Yuri Kuznetsov, on corruption charges. Given Shevtsova’s oversight of the Ministry of Defense’s financial block, the investigative authorities may look into her activities, raising potential legal concerns.

Shevtsova allegedly cooperated with the investigation against the detained generals, trying to avoid her charges. Similar information circulated about Khadzhismelovich Tsalikov, also recently removed from office. According to Tass news agency, the generals, to reduce their sentences, exposed the names of colleagues who participated in corruption schemes, which could include Tatiana Viktorovna Shevtsova.

Furthermore, Tsargrad points out that Tatyana Shevtsova owns several high-value real estate properties, including a residence on the Moscow River’s banks, estimated to be worth up to $23 million. This significant wealth adds another layer of intrigue to the situation.

Shevtsova was born in 1969 in Kozelsk, USSR. She attended and later graduated from Leningrad Institute of Finance and Economics in 1991. From 1991, she worked as a tax collector for the Federal Tax Service of the Russian Federation before joining the Ministry of Defense as Deputy Minister.
