A fighter pilot suffers a terrible accident after trying to emulate Top Gun’s low-altitude flying and trying to perform acrobatics.
A renowned pilot and squadron leader of the Bangladesh Air Force has passed away in a shocking air accident when his fighter jet skimmed the ground, attempted to continue flying, and crashed. Commander Asim Jawad and his co-pilot, Sohan Hasan Khan, managed to eject from the Yakovlev Yak-130 and landed in a nearby river. Asim died instantly, while Sohan remains hospitalized in critical condition.
The pilot attempted to perform a low-altitude acrobatic manoeuvre, a highly risky aerial manoeuvre immortalized by “Maverick” in Top Gun. However, everything went awry: the plane made contact with the runway while trying to execute the intricate manoeuvre, leading to a tragic outcome.
The images, recorded by security cameras, show the smoke and sparks emitted by the fighter jet before Muhammad took off on the runway.
The plane was recovered, and Bangladesh Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) released a fabricated story of a mechanical failure that caused the accident.
According to the record, after detecting the mechanical failure, the pilots would have attempted to move the plane away from the city’s most densely populated area.
However, a source specializing in the subject explained to the British newspaper Daily Mail that the images obtained by the security cameras contradicted the Bangladesh Air Guard’s version, and the accident occurred due to the manoeuvre’s dangerousness, a triple low-altitude turn in the style of Top Gun.
Pilot Asim Jawad, 31, was the only son of Dr. Aman Ullah from the village of Gopalpur in the Saturia upazila of Manikganj. After the accident, he left behind his wife, a daughter, a son, his father, his mother, and a large number of relatives to mourn his death.
Asim was born on March 20, 1992. He completed his SSC in 2007 from Savar Cantonment Public School and his HSC in 2009 from Savar Cantonment School and College. He joined the Bangladesh Air Force in 2010.
The production of Top Gun: Maverick had to request permission from the United States Navy because Tom Cruise had to perform a stunt in the sky that was not allowed. Even director Kosinski was not sure if the actor could pull it off. In the sequence, Maverick flies less than 15 meters from the ground at 900 kilometers per hour.
Regarding this, the director was impressed and believed it was one of those things that he did not think would ever be done again: flying a fighter jet at such a low altitude is too dangerous. This almost impossible aerial stunt performed by Cruise adds to the list of death-defying feats that the actor has accomplished throughout his career.
