Ukraine’s FPV drone almost intercepts Russian Mi-8 helicopter

ATACMS destroyed Russian nine helicopters, including Mi-28, Mi-8 and ka-52 attack helicopters.

Ukrainian military forces have released a video showcasing an attempt by an FPV (First Person View) drone to intercept a Russian Mi-8 helicopter.

The rare footage, made public by Ukrainian forces, captures the moment the FPV drone comes tantalizingly close to the Russian helicopter, which was flying at an extremely low altitude. Despite the drone’s best efforts, it could not match the speed of the Mi-8, allowing the helicopter to escape unscathed. The helicopter crew appeared unaware of the impending threat, continuing on their flight path without taking evasive action.

This incident underscores the growing sophistication and daring tactics employed by drones in conflict zones. While drones have successfully targeted and destroyed aircraft on the ground, achieving such feats against moving targets in the air presents a significant challenge. The video serves as a stark reminder of the rapidly changing dynamics of aerial warfare.

The use of drones in warfare has revolutionized military tactics, providing real-time surveillance, intelligence, and precise strike capabilities. However, the integration of drones into aerial combat against manned aircraft is still an emerging tactic. The near-miss incident involving the Mi-8 helicopter demonstrates both the potential and limitations of current drone technology in air-to-air engagements.
