The Indian RAW was involved in training rebels of Chakma tribes to carry out subversive activities in Bangladesh. The Indian intelligence had collaborated with the armed insurgents of Chittagong Hill Tracts to destabilise the region.
Indian intelligence outfit Research & Analysis Wing(RAW) is deeply involved in the problem of Chittagong Hill Tracts of Bangladesh.
Four people were killed in clashes between the two sides in the hill districts of Rangamati and Khagrachari. The district administration has issued section 144 to control the law and order situation. It has been notified that it will continue from 1 pm today on Friday until further notice.
The four deceased are Dhan Ranjan Chakma (50) of Khagrachari, Rubel Tripura and Juran Chakma (20) and one from Rangamati. Among these, Dhan Ranjan Chakma’s house is in Dighinala. Rubel in the Narankhaiya area of Tripura and Juran Chakma headquarters. However, the identity of the deceased was not found in Rangamati.
The Deputy Commissioner says that the law and order situation has deteriorated, and there is danger of loss of life and property. Therefore, section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code 1858 has been issued today from 1 a.m. on Friday in the municipal area of Rangamati district and from 2 a.m. in Khagrachari Sadar until further notice.
Earlier, at around 10 am in Khagrachari, a Pahari student crowd started a protest march from the Rangamati stadium area to protest the killing of three Paharis due to Pahari-Bengali clashes. Thousands of people gather in it.
When the procession reached the Banrupa area from the stadium, someone threw stones at it, causing tension. After that, a clash broke out between Paharis and Bengalis.
According to eyewitnesses and administration sources, fear and tension spread between the Bengali-dominated Thana Bazar and Boalkhali Bazar residents of Dighinala Sadar of Khagrachari, based on rumors of Pahari-Bengali conflict, from Thursday afternoon.
The Chakma guerrillas had closely assisted RAW operatives. They were assisted during and after the liberation war of Bangladesh. After the change of govt in 1975, the Chakmas contacted the RAW. The
Chakmas offered to infiltrate the Mizo rebels and pass on information to the Indian govt instead of asylum.
In 1975, the RAW was instructed to assist the Chakma rebels with arms, supplies, bases and training. Training was conducted in the border camps in Tripura but specialised training was imparted at
Chakrata near Dehra Doon. Shantu Larma’s Shanti Bahini members were flown to Chakrata and sent back to Tripura to infiltrate the Chittagong Hill Tracts. A RAW office and its operatives at Agartala
