Two significant generals have been made lieutenant generals in a high-level reshuffle in the Bangladesh Army.

Muhammad Faizur Rahman, incumbent director general of the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence, or DGFI, has been appointed quartermaster general, or QMG, at the Army Headquarters.

Jahangir Alam succeeded Major General Faizur Rahman, who was promoted to lieutenant general and made the quartermaster general. The Army Headquarters decided on October 14.

CCTV footage captures the moment Bangladesh army and rapid action battalion soldiers received BDT 7 million (US$58,394) extortion money.

On August 12, Maj Gen Md Faizur Rahman was appointed the new Director General (DG) of the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI).

Muhammad Mainur Rahman, another promoted GOC of the 24 Infantry Division of Chattogram Cantonment, has been made GOC of the Army Training and Doctrine Command, or ARTDOC.

Meanwhile, Major General Mohammad Jahangir Alam has become the new director general of DGFI. He was serving as GOC of the 33 Infantry Division in Cumilla.

Major General Ziaul Ahsan, who was relieved of his post in the Bangladesh Army on Tuesday, has been detained for human rights violation.

During the deposed Awami League government, Lieutenant General Mujibur Rahman, the QMG, was sent to ARTDOC following the political changeover. Lt Gen Ahmed Tabrez Shams Chowdhury, GOC of ARTDOC, was made QMG.

After a month, Tabrez was sent into retirement on September 12, while Mujibur was dismissed. Since then, both posts have been vacant.

New QMG Faizur took charge of DGFI on Aug 12. He had previously served as commandant of the Defence Services Command and Staff College, or DSCSC, at Mirpur. The officer, commissioned in the army through the 23rd BMA Long Course, also served as the GOC of the 66 Infantry Division in Rangpur.

ARTDOC’s new GOC, Mainur, served as GOC of the 33 Infantry Division in Cumilla before Chattogram. Commissioned in the army through the 24th BMA Long Course in 1991, this officer was promoted to major general in 2022.

Bangladesh detained Major General Ziaul Ahsan.

Major General Ziaul Ahsan, relieved of his post in the Bangladesh Army on Tuesday, has been detained. General Ahsan was involved in mass shootings, torture and detention of student protesters who ousted the former prime minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina.

It was learnt that members of DGFI took him back to Dhaka Cantonment on Tuesday night.

Ziaul Ahsan was detained after Emirates Flight 585 was made to taxi back to the boarding bridge from the runway.

Three senior Bangladesh Army officers, including former director general of the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI) Md Saiful Alam, have been sent into forced retirement, while another officer has been terminated.

Major General Md Saiful Alam was also involved in human rights violations and significant corruption, as DGFI’s director.
