Slovakian newest artillery system passes crucial trials

KONŠTRUKTA-Defence, a.s., a leading Slovak defense manufacturer, has successfully completed a series of critical tests for its modernized 155mm EVA M2 6×6 self-propelled artillery system.

As noted by the company, these tests mark a significant step forward in the qualification process of the artillery system, which is poised to enhance Slovakia’s artillery capabilities.

The EVA M2 underwent its first live-fire tests focused on evaluating the system’s structural strength and stability. The trials also included non-firing tests that assessed the system’s performance in navigating steep gradients, trenches, and other challenging terrain features. The results of these tests demonstrate the system’s robust design and operational reliability.

The EVA M2’s chassis, derived from the TATRA concept, features a central load-bearing tube with independently swinging half-axles and a front-mounted engine. The chassis is equipped with an armored cabin, providing enhanced crew protection, and a central tire inflation and deflation system that allows the driver to adjust tire pressure on the move, optimizing performance across various terrains.

Automation of the artillery system is achieved through advanced mechanisms for sensing and automatically adjusting the barrel’s position, as well as ammunition transport conveyors and a loading automation system. The EVA M2 also facilitates data transmission between the higher command system and the artillery unit, ensuring seamless integration with other battlefield systems.

The software architecture of the EVA M2’s fire control system is designed for central management of technical resources and monitoring of their activities. Key features of the software include topographic, ballistic, and technical preparation tasks, all of which are processed directly in the onboard computer. The system also calculates firing solutions, enabling precise and efficient artillery operations.

The 155mm EVA M2 6×6 is an evolution of the previous EVA models, offering improved mobility, protection, and firepower. The system is designed to provide rapid, accurate, and mobile artillery support, making it a crucial asset in modern military operations.
