Airstrike explosions were heard in Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, following an IDF strike, Israeli media reported in the early hours of Thursday morning.
The airstrike began shortly after the Houthis took responsibility for a projectile from Yemen that targeted central Israel and was intercepted by the IAF.
According to the Houthi-run Al Masirah channel, the strikes targeted several major power stations in the area, resulting in power outages in several areas across Yemen.
Israeli journalist Barak Ravid posted on X/Twitter that Israel gave the US advanced notice prior to the strike, citing an anonymous US official.
Shortly after the attack, the IDF announced that the strike plan had been approved by Defense Minister Israel Katz and was carried out with the direction of the Intelligence Directorate and the Israeli Navy.
“The Houthi terrorist regime has repeatedly attacked the State of Israel, including by attacking Israeli territory using UAVs and surface-to-surface missiles. Most of these projectiles were successfully intercepted,” the IDF stated.
According to the IDF, the targets struck were used by the Houthis for military purposes, including smuggling Iranian weapons into the region.
The IDF reiterated its commitment to operating against all threats posed to the citizens of the State of Israel.
“Whoever raises a hand against the State of Israel – his hand will be cut off,” Katz said in a statement.
