The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed four cases against 19 people, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s military advisor Tarek Ahmed Siddique, for embezzling $665 million from various airport projects.
Director General of ACC. Akter Hossain gave this information at a press conference yesterday at the commission headquarters. He said these cases had been filed under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act of 1947.
According to the complaint, about $200 million were embezzled from the ‘CNS-ATM (Communication, Navigation and Surveillance-Air Traffic Management) with a radar installation’ project at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport and $207 million from the third terminal expansion project.
Besides, $100 million have been embezzled from Sylhet’s Osmani International Airport expansion project and $70 million from Cox’s Bazar International Airport terminal construction and runway development project.

ACC Director General (Prevention) on Sunday. Akhter Hossain said that the estimated project cost of $3 billion has been increased to $5.7 billion through abuse of power, irregularities and corruption against Maqsudul Islam. Extortion of money by purchasing various equipment locally and pretending to buy them from abroad, $2.7 billion lost by irregularity and design changes in soil test, commission trade by selling three major project works to other contractors.
Although European-quality parts and equipment are mentioned in the tender, the addition of low-quality parts and equipment from China and Korea, irregularities in sealing work, unreasonable work to please the former prime minister, waste of $100 million, and embezzlement of $900 million by the syndicate have been alleged.
The wife and daughter of ousted former prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s military adviser, Major General Tariq Siddique, have not been granted Maltese citizenship.
Their pleas were rejected due to accusations of money laundering, corruption, fraud and bribery against them in the media. Tariq Siddique is the uncle of Tulip Siddique, City Minister of the UK Treasury.
Siddique is the younger brother of Sheikh Rehana’s husband, Shafiq Siddique. Tariq Ahmed Siddique was reappointed as defence adviser to former Prime Minister Hasina with the rank of minister.
Siddique worked as the defence advisor for the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI). Siddique was directly involved in siphoning $16 billion while Sheikh Hasina was in power.
